BBC Alerts is a free program that helps us to keep ourselves informed about the latest world news from various BBC channels: BBC News, BBC Sport, and BBC World Service.
This program will install itself as an icon in our desktop toolbar.
It is very easy to select the desired categories: we just check the required boxes. We can choose how we want each of the selected categories to be displayed; that is, in the form of a desktop ticker or an alert window that will pop up every 60 minutes. Optionally, we can choose to play alert sounds, view the full story in a quick browser or full web browser, and set the scrolling speed. We can let this program detect the proxy settings automatically, or we can enter them manually. Learners of the English language can also use this program to improve their command of that language. BBC Alerts runs under Windows 2000, and XP operating systems.
